The past couple of days has been a bit of a blur.
My addiction to social media has been put into overload as I endeavour to reach out to new people and develop new friendships.
Social Media has really opened my eyes up to so much! People post the most amazing things that I would never even dream of looking up. Photos and recipes, holiday destinations and activities, animals and plant life, flowers and butterflies.
I get swept up in the visual diversity that social media brings in front of my eyes and on top of feeling blessed to have great vision (I was told at the age of 15 or so that I would be blind before I turned 25!) I feel an overwhelming connection to the humans behind the lens of such beauty.
My latest addiction is a social site that pays its members to post, like, comment, share and fan other members. Watching the money grow, and extremely quickly I might add, really isn’t the attraction here for me.
It is the fact that so many people in my immediate location are shown to me. People that I had not come across on any of the other platforms. These are the connections I have been wanting to make so that I can meet them in person sooner rather than later.
Isn’t that cool! Strangers in my home town are now liking my posts and I am loving theirs. We are sharing everyday stuff. Funny stuff. Music videos, funny clips. Not only that, but I am getting my posts and status updates seen and liked by up to 10 times more people than on any of the other SM sites I am active on.
Knowing that so many people are really looking and paying attention – and yes they are commenting more too – is really empowering.
I know that I impact the lives of those that I have personal contact with each week. I no longer work with other people as I am out on my own in a car all day every day, so connecting with people in my spare time so that I may brighten their day is an amazing feeling.
What do you use Social Media for? Are you marketing? making friends? Does it help you to overcome any other social phobias that you might have about being with people in person? Are you shy in person but really shine behind a computer screen?
I would love for you to comment below if there I can help you in anyway to overcome obstacles, clear your head, organise yourself, get started with social media or blogging. Even if you just need a fresh ‘venting’ board. Let me know.
